Fashion and Textiles Day 2

Today was a very abstract day which suited to my ability well. My work are usually dramatic and like to be different. Today i had my chance to show the way i work due to the amount of freedom we had which also suited me well. It allowed my creativity and expressive style to come out.

After day 1 where i worked with lots of different paper material and shapes, i didn't particularly enjoy the round/circular style as i thought shapes which were more edge, angular are more striking and standing out from the crowd.

Therefore, i created this as my first figure, I saw the background which is vertical lines, this contrasts very well with the triangular shapes i made, together the outfit stands out. I worked with composition, size and layers to create a 3D yet organised feel.

I also experimented with different types of paper such as, foil, cardboard, newspapers, magazines, and masking tape.

Although the foil outfit seems simple, it has a very complex texture with all the creased marks and folds, it creates gloss or shine and i used this as an advantage, as the material itself is dramatic I deliberately did this outfit oversize as the material grabs people;s attention already, the scale can enhance outfit even more.

Using different techies as well with paper creates different character to the outfit. eg. layering, crossing

Here i used just normal tape but concentrated on the technique of how to place them, the crossovers of tape made negative space on the outfit.












Next I concentrated on one part of the body to develop - The shoulder/neck.

 Using a new shape - cones, after making this it gave me an idea of "recycling". The piece looks its been made by using old materials such as the quite scuffed cardboard, newspaper etc.
I like how the shapes are first concentrated into one space then explodes outwards.

Trying to create the sharp and edgey style again, but this time I folded the paper differently, it turned out to have such a neat, accurate layered feel.

Today I learnt how fashion works, there are lots of conceptual work in fashion and i think i adapt really well to it. These 2 days i learnt how paper can be a very versatile material and can be manipulated in lots of different ways. The past 2 days allowed me to express my creativity and my abstract style which i enjoy very much.
I think i worked well and learnt a l in just 2 days from not experience in fashion and textiles at all. There were hardly any difficulties for me in this task, maybe because the task suited to my ability and the connection of style i work in.
Most people agreed to the first figure i made as the best one, i personally think so too along with this shoulder piece on the left. I will to develop this angular and triangular based piece.
